Training Tips Bulletin #1

Training
OSHA requires Annual Training in a variety of subjects:

  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Hearing Conservation
  • Portable Fire Extinguishers
  • Respiratory Protection
  • Benzene, Cadmium, Formaldehyde, Inorganic Arsenic, Lead & Others But, OSHA also requires retraining whenever:
  • Changes are made (procedures, processes, exposures, equipment, etc.)
  • Deficiencies are noted (injuries, illnesses, audits, citations, etc.) Slow times are the best times to get everyone refreshed on all of their Safety Training!
    Remember…

The Cost Of Training Is Peanuts Compared To The Cost Of An Accident!

    Vacuuming
Whenever an Air Mover is cleaned, the rear door, baghouse side door(s) and cyclone side door(s) should be left open. This removes the compressive force on the gaskets so that when the doors are closed the gaskets have great ‘push back’. It also prevents condensation inside the unit and gives the opportunity for a quick glance check of how well the truck was cleaned.

    Waterblasting
Proper barricading is essential to a safe waterblast job. Anywhere the high pressure water can reach needs to be safely within a barricade. Pipes present a particular challenge. The pipe should be walked the length of the lance to be inserted into the pipe and that entire run barricaded. Underground, overhead, stairways it doesn’t matter. People must be prevented from entering the area where the danger exists.
